Welcome to the Summer of 2019!

At Extreme STEAM Science Kids, we believe that lifelong learners are created when children are enchanted with science at a young age and are given the opportunity to develop their natural curiosity. We allow students to provide the questions and help them to design experiences to practice the scientific process and learn the way scientists do; through experimentation, collection of real-world data and analysis of their results. In keeping with 4 major themes, we have built in the flexibility to cultivate the students’ wonders while giving them fun problems to solve with a team. We empower children to know that their questions matter, and that they can make a difference in the world through thinking and doing. With a common vocabulary through each learning space, children will obtain a working knowledge of the concepts presented. Our inquiry-driven classes promote innovation, social skills and problem-solving in a fun environment while students learn the basics of experimental design and design theory. We believe in preparing students for an ever-changing future in which adaptable learning will be imperative for a rapidly changing world in need of global collaboration. Extreme Steam Science Kids are not asked to just learn facts, they are challenged to use their  deep-rooted love for learning to help shape a better future.

In 2019 we plan to introduce our campers to phenomenon based learning, using models to demonstrate their understanding, incorporate the NGSS cross-cutting concepts and science and engineering practices. In order to facilitate learning in a fun environment, our teachers will be weaving our themes into each learning space. Our experiences transcend classrooms, as many of our lessons take us all around Park Shore’s campus, off campus and extend into the virtual world. Students will be tending to our hydroponic garden, butterfly garden and our native garden. They will also experiment with forms of vertical planting and learn how farmers are beginning to use innovative science to yield more crops. Our campers will create a lovely salad from our crops to go with our pizza for our annual pizza party. This year our pizza party will take place on our campus in our first ever garden party!  In our digital den, students will be introduced to Raspberry Pi where they will learn coding language, programming and basic computer assembly. We will use drones and learn how scientists are using drones to collect data in hard to reach areas. We will be taking field trips to locations which have significance within our themes. Our campers are going to have a very fun and knowledgeable summer.

Citizen Science is a recurring theme in Extreme Steam Science Kids. Students will participate and collect information for actual scientific studies occurring around the world.  Students will contribute and feel that they make a real difference while they collect real-world data to help real live scientists in experiments designed to create a better Earth! The students’ results are used to help the biosphere and provide students with an intrinsic sense of purpose and belonging in the global community. Within each two-week session’s theme, campers experience all of the Extreme STEAM Science Kids areas of exploration which are Robotics, SnappyXO, Engineering, Programming, Artistic Design and Life, Physical and Earth Science.
